JAMES BOND 007
on

"The name is Bond…James Bond"...
Immortal words that make perfect sense to millions around the globe, conjuring up images of exotic locations, action, intrigue and a bit on the side.
James Bond, secret agent 007, the suave, debonair, quick witted ladies' man with a license to kill. That's what he is and always will be, no matter which actor's face represents him. I'm sure Ian Fleming would never have dreamt of his spy novels becoming a global cinematic franchise unlike any other; its signature John Barry theme tune and elaborate merchandising only the tip of the iceberg. Six actors and over 20 movies later, and the novelty hasn't worn off in the least - in fact, it has escalated. Although the basics of each film can be narrowed down to: megalomaniac bent on world domination steals missiles to hold the world at ransom while British super spy thwarts his evil plans, swigging shaken (not stirred) vodka-martini's and shagging a few beauties in the process - A once-off formula? Not quite. As to be expected, the progressive evolution of filmmaking and the changed world order, as well as audience expectations has changed the tone of the more recent installments. While the nifty gadgets are always present, some more politically correct alterations have been adopted for today's climate. Be that as it may, you either love him or hate him and the literary legacy turned into a celluloid empire by the late Albert R. Broccoli and EON Productions will live on.
This immortal character's films come to its full right on DVD. The Special Edition metal tin box set (first released in 2002) is of course the ultimate collectors' piece, covering
Dr.No through Tomorrow Never Dies. Each DVD contains a documentary on some aspect of the Bond series, be it the music, its makers, the title design, stunts, set design, you name it. Featurettes and Making Of documentaries of each film find its way onto the discs. Cinema trailers, TV & Radio spots, out-takes, ad campaigns, stills galleries & more make this an essential package. To top it all, each of the discs contain (more often) not just one, but two commentary tracks!
Every household needs a bit of Bond - James Bond!
